DOME 4.0 User Documentation
DOME 4.0 is a semantic digital data marketplace whose services are made available through the publicly available platform accessible via nextgen.dome40.io. This marketplace has been developed as a research outcome as a part of the “Digital Open Marketplace Ecosystem 4.0” project supported by the Horizon 2020 Work Programme and is not yet a fully commercial (high TRL) product.
The platform offers a user-friendly interface providing access to several features and services that DOME 4.0 uses to enable secure cross-sector data sharing between the users while also adhering to the Findability, Accessibility, Interoperability and Reusability (FAIR) principles.
To use the platform, all the users should be first authenticated. Once logged in, the users can use the platform in multiple ways, including:
- Query for data available on the platform, and get access to the data if they are allowed to
- Upload their own data sets on the platform, and make those available to other users
- Add their own ontologies to the platform describing their data sets – there is even a tool on the platform that makes it possible to visualise these ontologies
- Access the nine Business-to-Business Showcases spanning a wide range of applications in the materials and manufacturing sectors
- Add standard connectors enabling the addition of new data spaces, data sources or data platforms to the DOME 4.0 platform – such new resources could then be queried accordingly
The aim for this document is to provide a step-by-step guide towards effective use of the DOME 4.0 platform and its functionalities, including those mentioned above. The following sections provide further guidance towards how to use the platform and its services. The DOME 4.0 platform users are also encouraged to check other available DOME 4.0 resources, such as multiple video recordings available at the Lhumos Platform. A series of public reports are also available here for further in-depth information about how the DOME 4.0 project works.
The documentation below will give you an introduction to all the individual features of the DOME 4.0 platform. Most of the features described in this documentation are only available for logged in users. Feel free to log in with your Github account. For a walk through of the platform please look at this video on the Lhumos page.

Further DOME 4.0 Resources
DOME 4.0 partners have also tried to capture some of the background knowledge and know-how in developing the data sharing platform via the deliverables that are available to the public via the project’s website at dome40.eu. While each of these deliverables focus on specific aspects of the project, they will also provide further understanding about how the platform works, and what benefits it can bring to the users.
While all the deliverables available to the public are useful in understanding the benefits of the platform, the following shortlist could be particularly helpful for the platform users:
- D1.4: DOME 4.0 web platform, final release – an overview report about the DOME 4.0 platform, how it works and what it does
- D1.5: Onboarding Services – a short report on how DOME 4.0 deals with onboarding the users
- D2.2: Report on DOME 4.0 FAIR compliance – a concise report summarising how the Findability, Accessibility, Interoperability and Reusability (FAIR) principles are adhered with
- D2.5: Tools for data analytics – a report on how the DOME 4.0 platform could be leveraged in data analytics tasks
- D2.6: Tools for simulation and modelling workflows – another report summarising how the DOME 4.0 platform could be leveraged in modelling workflows
- D3.5: Reference Data Connector and B2B data connectors – a report on how to develop and leverage connectors to provide access to external data sources via DOME 4.0 platform
- D4.1: Report on data availability, data structure, and data requirements for each showcase – while there is too much commentary in the literature about data sharing benefits, the requirements capture, and the data structure details tend to be missing. This report covers such content that could be of benefit to data sharing practitioners
- D6.5: Report on the three Hackathons – although a non-technical deliverable, this report gives a good overview of how the platform could be used in tackling real challenges in data sharing
Combined with other sections of the Users Guide, these deliverables can provide a better overview of how the DOME 4.0 adds value and provides benefits to its users.
